The Celts never missed an opportunity to throw a dash of style into anything they created. In that same vein, sure, it's hard to make semi-circular guards on a sword. But it was a staple of Celtic Weapon smithing and was one of the many things that really set their swords apart from everyone else's. This Celtic short sword is a perfect example of this type of guard design.
The polished steel semicircle that forms the guard is accented with brass rivets and fits snugly over the flared forte of the sword's blade. The blade is leaf shaped. A leather-wrapped wood grip is wrapped by evenly spaced brass bands for additional beauty and grip. The top of the brass pommel is domed, with a flat cylinder perpendicular to it.
